A super fun activity to do in the winter months is ice skating. Did you know that you can try this activity indoors as well? Yes you can, and it’s a great way to work on balance and strength. You only need a couple simple things that are likely already in your home for indoor ice skating! It can be done on the carpet or on a harder surface within the home!
Indoor Ice Skating
Needed
Paper Plate (Add decoration if you’d like!)
OR
Wax Paper
When ice skating on a hard surface the paper plate works best. This is achieved by standing on the paper plates and “skating” around on a hard surface. With my toddler, I prefer the second option right now which is wax paper. Wax paper works well on a carpeted surface. It glides easier over the thicker carpet then what the paper plates do. He’s more prone to falling so we like to stay on a carpeted surface at this point.
Indoor ice skating is great because it works on strength and balance! Balance becomes challenged because the surface below isn’t as stable. This requires strength to maintain balance. Engaging muscles of the core help maintain balance while indoor ice skating. A fun way to play while working on strength and balance, hard to beat that.
This is a fun activity for toddlers through elementary aged kids!

I like to use frisbees for indoor ice skating…they last longer than paper plates. Also, the styrofoam plates work well on carpet compared to paper plates.
